How do flies walk on the ceiling?

As in our everyday lives we come across with a lot of questions about nature. Have you ever wondered why only flies and not human beings can walk on the ceiling..

When flies walk on the ceiling upside down they should have a perfect and careful balance of adherence (sticking) and mass(weight) and also some special tools that can help them in trekking and go opposite to gravity.

Not just fly there are many insects that go and walk on the ceiling. When any insect walk on the ceiling then it leaves a stick substance and makes the ceiling a little bit sticky thing. They have two footpads that give them plenty surface area. These pads called pulvilli has some tiny hairs called setae equipped and have spatula like tips. Because of these parts the flies could walk on the ceiling. The sticky substance helps the fly to stick to the ceiling and move that they could not fall down and the hairs helps to grip the surface.

Also a research from the German Max Plank Institute for Metals Research also studied about it and named more than 300 insects that could walk on the ceiling and wall climbing insects and they also watched the sticky footprints that the insects left behind.

The flies’ feet should not be very much sticky as then they wouldn’t be able to lift and walk.
